Little-Known Home Cleaning Tips
Unique Home Cleaning Tips
Little-known tips that can make cleaning up around your house a lot easier and more effective, too, saving you time and effort.
How It's Done
Common household items can serve double- or even triple-duty as low-cost methods for removing stains and build-up.Take these unique cleaning tips into consideration for your home:
- • Barbecue sauce stains: treat these stains right away with cool water. Water that's super cold or hot can set the stain, but cool water works wonders as a pretreatment. Just pour cool water on the stain and wipe with a towel before putting the item in the washer.
- • Everyone loves dish wands for hand washing dishes. Well, they also make great tools for cleaning Showers, tubs and toilets! Instead of dish soap, fill them with a solution of half dish soap-half vinegar to fight soap scum and toilet stains. Press the button to release the solution and scrub to clean without using harsh chemicals. Make sure to use a separate dish wand for each job.
- • Build-up on your shower head? The answer is in your pantry: vinegar. Unscrew the shower head and soak in 100% vinegar. If the shower head cannot be easily removed, tie a plastic bag full of vinegar to the shower with a rubber band so the shower head is fully immersed. In either case, soak for 30 minutes and rinse. Voila!
- • Grease stains on fabrics. Another pantry item is a perfect treatment: corn starch. Pour enough corn starch to fully cover the grease spot and let it absorb for 15 minutes. Then, vacuum the residue away for a green stain solution.
